Lil Wayne once titled a track after Kobe Bryant. He’s now drawing comparisons to the NBA superstar. David Banner, who spun Tha Carter III standout “La La,” described the Young Money star to XXLMag.com as “highly focused,” right now on his follow up album.

“Wayne is like Kobe Bryant right now,” Banner told XXL. “You know, as Kobe gets older all he cares about is championships. Wayne is in that zone. He’s highly focused and very sharp right now.”

Young Money General Mack Maine told XXL Mag yesterday (January 27) that Wayne is almost finished with the eagerly awaited Carter IV LP. “I was in the studio all night workin’ on this Carter IV,” he told XXL. “We got David Banner coming in tonight, so hopefully he’ll come with somethin’. We try to make sure — he kind of makes every album. He made Tha Carter III, and made [We Are Young Money].”

The Mississippi sound architect wouldn’t confirm his collaboration with Weezy last night.

Aside from Banner, other producers reportedly on board for Tha Carter IV include Swizz Beatz, Detail, Boi-1da, and Kanye West. Carter IV is tentatively slated for April 2011. — Henry Adaso

Haha this shit is funny! The paparazzi caught up with Lil Wayne when he was heading out of Philippe’s for some grub and asked him if Nicki Minaj’s ass is real or not. He starts laughing and you hear Mack Maine shout: “I’m sayin’, why y’all on Nicki’s nuts?”, and then Tune pops his head out of the car window and says: “It’s real nice, I know that”. The paps also caught up with Detail (who has been working a lot with Wayne lately), and says the C4 album is insane!

XXL Magazine recently spoke to the Young Money President Mack Maine about Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV album. Mack says C4 is nearly finished, Weezy worked with someone on the album he has never worked with before, they just finished shooting the “6 Foot, 7 Foot” music video which took 4 days, producers Detail and Swizz Beatz will be on the album, and more. I’m guessing the Swizz Beatz record will be the “Anne” one he spoke about a while back. You can read the interview below:

We got David Banner coming in tonight, so hopefully he’ll come with somethin’. We try to make sure—he kind of makes every album. He made Tha Carter III, and made We Are Young Money.”

As for features on the disc, aside from Nicki and Drake, Mack remained tight lipped, though he did hint at a surprise. “I’m gonna keep the features a surprise,” he said, before revealing that Weezy “just did something with somebody he never worked with, though.”

They recently shot a video, as well. “Wayne actually shot his first video with Hype Williams, which is big. We just finished a four-day video shoot, which is like a movie to me.”

As for Wayne’s post-jail sound, Mack pulled no punches. “Expect maturity and him showing his growth in the game,” he assured.

On the production tip, there will be both old and new names on the project. “A couple of new cats,” he continued. “This kid, his name’s Detail. A few people know him; he did ‘Sexy Can I’ for Ray J. He’s gonna be relatively new, I guess, to some people. As far as big names, Swizz Beatz is on there.”

While Mack Mizzle did not give a release date for Tha Carter IV, he did confirm that Lil Wayne could finish the album by as soon as tonight. “Two or three more songs I’d say. We could be finished as of today, but we perfectionist so we still looking for one or two more sounds.”
